steampunkpendanteiffeltowerSteampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction influenced by the 19th century scientific romances of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells and Mary Shelley.  It usually features steam-powered machinery inspired by this era of industrialized Western civilization and is often set in an alternative history of the British Victorian era or an American Wild West post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream use.

Steampunk may also feature anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them and is likewise rooted in the era’s perspective in fashion, culture, architecture and art.steampunkpendantscottishlionwithsword

Steampunk may also incorporate additional elements from historical fiction, fantasy, horror or other branches of alternative or speculative fictions.  The term “Steampunk” was first used in 1987 and is now also used to refer to works of fiction created in the 1950s or 1960s.

The Steampunk jewelry featured on this site is some of the most imaginative and well-made pieces we have ever seen.  They are gorgeous and will fit with many costumes or Steampunk “memorabilia” collections.
